What to know for an away match with Ambassadors FC Ohio

CANTON, OHIO - After its first loss of the season, Cleveland SC responded, and now we will see if the club can continue its form against another tough opponent in Ambassadors FC Ohio.
Cleveland took its first loss of the season last week in a tough game against the undefeated Erie Commodores FC in a game that saw a lengthy rain delay and a final score of 2-0 in favor of the Commodores.
With that first loss coming in a later part of the season, it was interesting to see how the club would respond with a road game against a solid opponent in Niagara 1812, and Cleveland impressed.
Cleveland delivered a 5-0 win on the road over Niagara, netting the first goal in the 12th minute and then totally taking control from that point on.
Midfielder Jack Jenkins started the scoring with that goal in the 12th minute before Hakim Musabbah found the back of the net nine minutes later in the 23rd minute.
In the second half, the team kept solidifying their win, with goals from Luca Piazza, Gabe Gotting and Bartu Yakkan giving Cleveland its biggest win of the season so far.
The defense was also outstanding, as goalkeeper Colin Monroe and the Cleveland backline delivered a great performance that ended in the team’s fifth clean sheet of the season.
Now, the team will refocus as they once again hit the road, but this time in-state as they will travel to Malone University to face off against Ambassadors FC Ohio on Wednesday (June 17).
The last time Cleveland faced off against Ambassadors, it was a highly anticipated match as both squads came into the meeting undefeated, but a great performance from Cleveland resulted in a 3-0 win that allowed them to leapfrog Ambassadors in the standings.
Since then, Cleveland still holds that second spot in the Great Lakes Conference standings with 19 points, while Ambassadors have 15. Ambassadors have only played in six matches this season, however, two fewer than Cleveland, every team in the GLC except for the Buffalo Stallions.
After the match against Cleveland, the Ambassadors had 10 days without a match, and that rest was a good thing for the team, as they bounced back in their next match against Rochester NY FC with a 2-0 win.
The circumstances for this match haven’t changed much in the two weeks since the teams played, as Ambassadors are still a very good team that needs to be taken seriously, as Cleveland still represents its only loss of the year.
Ambassadors are also right behind Cleveland in the standings with two games in hand, so the points up for grabs in this matchup will be huge for the outlook of the Great Lakes Conference table this season.
