Home Opener: Cleveland SC vs Erie Commodores

Cleveland SC Hosts Erie Commodores in Long-Awaited Home Opener

BEREA, OH — After three straight road matches to start the 2025 NPSL season, Cleveland SC is finally coming home. On Saturday, May 31st at 7:00 PM, the club hosts Erie Commodores FC at George Finnie Stadium for their home opener, kicking off the Cleveland portion of the Great Lakes Conference campaign. With a strong crowd and high energy expected, Cleveland will aim to make a statement in front of their home fans and start their home slate with three points.

Cleveland enters Matchday 4 with a 1-1-1 record and currently sits sixth in the Great Lakes Conference. In their most recent outing, the club earned a tough 1-1 draw on the road against Ohio rivals Ambassadors FC. After conceding early, Cleveland responded with a brilliant 30-yard equalizer from Tamas Nagy and nearly stole all three points with two late chances. Despite the wet conditions and a physical contest, the team showed grit and composure to come away with a valuable point.

Now, they return home eager to climb the table—and show Cleveland soccer fans what this team is made of.

Their opponent, Erie Commodores FC, currently holds 4th place in the standings with a 1-0-1 record. Erie is coming off a strong performance, having earned their first win of the season against the Buffalo Stallions. The Commodores are not strangers to the conference and will bring a physical, disciplined approach that Cleveland must match from the opening whistle.

For Cleveland, Stanislav Koval will be looking to rediscover the scoring touch that saw him bag a brace in the season opener. The Cleveland attack will aim to put pressure on Erie’s back line and create the kind of quality chances that can turn the tide in a close match.

On the defensive side, goalkeeper Zoltan Nagy continues to be a stabilizing force in net. With several key saves already this season, Nagy has established himself as a vital last line of defense—and will look to carry that form into Cleveland’s first home fixture.

Saturday’s match is more than just another regular season game—it's a chance for the city of Cleveland to rally behind its club. With local support, a familiar pitch, and momentum building, the stage is set for an electric night of soccer under the lights at George Finnie Stadium.
