What to know for a huge matchup against Erie Commodores

BEREA, OHIO - The boys in orange and black have stayed hot, and they will be running into an equally on-fire team this Wednesday (June 10) at George Finnie Stadium against the No. 1 team in the NPSL in Erie Commodores FC.
Cleveland SC is currently slated as the No. 4 nationally, as they have been on a massive hot streak, winning four in a row and still waiting on its first loss of the season.
The club is coming off an electric finish on the road against Flower City Union that saw a stoppage-time winner from Nico Romero to secure a 1-0 win.
That win was Cleveland’s second road win of the season and its fifth win overall this year, and it was the first goal of Romero’s season, coming at the perfect time to steal three points at the death in New York.
After the road win, the team will look ahead to the biggest game of the year against Erie at home, a matchup between two top-five teams in the country and the top two teams in the Great Lakes Conference.
Cleveland has been phenomenal this year, scoring 12 goals while allowing just two and earning 16 points on the season. For as good as Cleveland has been, Erie has been even better so far, as they have outright dominated the teams in front of them.
Erie has scored a whopping 23 goals while allowing just one goal in a 5-1 trouncing of the Buffalo Stallions. The least amount of goals that they have scored in a match this year is two against Flower City Union.
Their goal difference of 22 is second in the country, behind the absurd 35-goal differential from another one of the top teams in the country, El Farolito.
Cleveland is not coming into this game untested, as they have excelled in their first couple of tests this season, with the first one in their last home game against Ambassadors FC Ohio, who were ahead of Cleveland in the standings before Cleveland delivered a 3-0 win.
Last week, Cleveland had another test as a hard-fought game looked like it was going to end with a scoreless draw, just before an incredible counterattack and the aforementioned goal from Romero.
The squad will find out tomorrow if those tests will have prepared them well enough for the best team in the country thus far, and it should be a great environment in Berea.
On the eve of the World Cup, Wednesday’s matchup against Erie Commodores FC will also be World Cup Night at George Finnie Stadium. Fans who wear a national team jersey will receive $5 off admission at the gate. Represent your country and be there for one of the biggest matches of the season.
