Looking ahead to a home match against Flower City Union

BEREA, OHIO - After two straight games away from home, Cleveland SC finally returns to George Finnie Stadium to face off against Flower City Union.
Saturday’s match will also serve as Cleveland SC’s Youth Night, with all kids receiving free admission for the club’s return home.
The road trip treated Cleveland very well, as the club went 2-0 with games away in Niagara, New York, and Canton, Ohio. The first win came last Saturday against Niagara 1812, and Cleveland made a statement, getting a 5-0 win that saw different scorers in an absolute rout of the team near the Canadian border.
The second win came Wednesday against a strong Ambassadors FC Ohio side, one Cleveland had already beaten earlier this season in a big home matchup.
The first match against Ambassadors ended in a 3-0 win at home for Cleveland at the start of June, and on Wednesday, the squad got it done again with a 2-0 win.
The two attackers who have been on fire for the squad both notched goals in the first half, as striker Abdou Faye secured the first goal in the seventh minute before fellow attacker Hakim Musabbah put the second and final goal of the game on the board in the 19th minute off a wonderful counterattack.
Faye and Musabbah are now tied for the most goals on the team and the third most goals in the Great Lakes Conference with four after the game on Wednesday.
It is not fair to the Cleveland back line and overall defense to not mention them as well, as they turned in yet another spectacular performance, getting their sixth clean sheet of the season. That clean sheet was highlighted by an excellent save from goalkeeper Colin Monroe in the 34th minute to preserve Cleveland’s lead going into the half.
Both teams played nil-nil soccer in the second half, and that was more than enough to secure a huge three points for Cleveland against the team that was right behind them in the standings. That win also gives Cleveland a season sweep over Ambassadors.
Coming off another strong result on Wednesday, Cleveland will look to keep it going this Saturday as it returns home to Berea for another big GLC match.
Saturday’s match will also mark Flower City Union’s first visit to Cleveland since joining the league, adding another layer to what has quickly become a competitive series between the two clubs.
Cleveland and Flower City have met three times all-time, with the series sitting even at 1-1-1.
Cleveland claimed the most recent meeting earlier this season in Rochester, earning one of its most thrilling wins of the year. The match looked headed for a scoreless draw before Nico Romero delivered a stoppage-time winner to secure a dramatic 1-0 road victory.
Flower City are still a very good squad, as they were mere seconds away from locking up a 0-0 draw and splitting the points before Romero’s electric winner. Cleveland will now look to build on that road result and protect home field as Flower City makes its first trip to George Finnie Stadium.
The team from Rochester, New York, also boasts a player who is tied for third in the conference in goals with Rodrigo Gomes de Almeida, who has four goals on the season, along with Faye and Musabbah.
Flower City is more of a scoring threat than Ambassadors, as they have logged 15 goals on the season compared to Ambassadors’ 13. Flower City has also allowed 13 goals on the season, so Cleveland will look to pounce on what has been a shaky defense this season.
The Cleveland defense has been so good this season, though, that the club will look to earn another clean sheet and get a big home win this Saturday.
